Summer Strand is the Director of Government Affairs for the Walbec Group, a family of companies that provide professional construction and engineering services and produce quality construction materials. In this role, she advocates on behalf of the Group and the transportation construction industry as a whole with local, state, and federal government entities, organizations and trade associations, and other stakeholders. Summer’s public policy and construction industry experience was honed in her previous positions in state government. From 2011 to 2016, Summer served as Administrator of the Division of Facilities Development and Secretary of the State Building Commission for the Wisconsin Department of Administration. In these roles, she was responsible for the development and implementation of the approximately $1.3 billion biennial state building program which included the construction of new buildings and the remodeling, renovation, and maintenance of existing facilities for state agencies and the University of Wisconsin System. Prior to that, Summer worked in the Wisconsin State Senate for four years where her primary focus was on energy, construction, and transportation policy. Summer is a licensed attorney and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her law degree from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. A proud member of Brauds 2.0, Summer also serves on the Board of Directors of the Madison Club and enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Born and raised in Madison, Summer currently resides in Waunakee with her husband Brandon and their two young sons.
